San José, CA – San José Mayor, Sam Liccardo, has issued the following statement in response to recent extended blackouts in San José caused by inadequate and poorly maintained PG&E infrastructure:

“We have verified that the extended blackouts from this weekend have had nothing to do with the regional rolling blackouts predicted by the California Independent System Operator, and everything to do with the poor state of repair and replacement of PG&E infrastructure.

PG&E must be more forthright with the public about its failures to maintain and replace the aging infrastructure that has caused too many San Joséans to lack power throughout the last three days during the worst heatwave in memory.  They must also be held accountable for their continued failure to live up to their responsibilities. Californians deserve safe, reliable power, and PG&E is not delivering.

While CAL ISO is issuing roving blackouts to assist grid relief during the current severe weather incident, San José’s blackouts are not related to this issuance.
