Park Rangers Inspire Youth to Protect Parks
The Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services’ Alum Rock Park Rangers are building the next generation of park and nature stewards. On March 26, 170 third and sixth graders at Cedar Grove Elementary School learned about the ranger profession and how they can protect parks. The park rangers highlighted the “Leave No Trace” principle of respecting wildlife. Students learned how to be mindful of what park users take from and leave behind in nature. The youth put lessons into action on March 29 by visiting the park and working on the Junior Ranger guide. For more information, please contact Justin Long, Deputy Director, at (408) 793-5579.
