Local Food Trucks Go Off The Grid To Provide Food Relief Services

Vulnerable and At-Risk San José Populations Will Have Needed Groceries Delivered To Their Homes

“We believe everyone deserves a healthy meal that is delicious to eat and puts a smile on your face,” said Ashleigh Bilodeaux, Director of Marketing for Off the Grid.

Off the Grid has been serving the greater Bay Area for the past 10 years. Historically known as a family fun community-driven program and mobile food company, Off the Grid, before COVID-19, pulled local food trucks together to allow residents to try different cuisines, get together and have fun.

However, due to the social gathering limitations of COVID-19, Off the Grid has transitioned to an emergency response and food relief program to continue to serve their communities’ vulnerable populations.

Partnering with the City of San José, they were the awarded $2,313,360 for grocery delivery and $622,400 for meal deliveries to homes to these at-risk populations.

With this partnership, Off the Grid, has been able to create a San José COVID Food Relief Program through the end of this year. Eligible participants can receive groceries delivered once per week that include fresh produce, whole grains and protein.

By delivering these items to their homes, at-risk and vulnerable populations and those who have tested positive for COVID-19 will not have to leave their homes to get groceries or, in some cases, prepared meals.

“Off the Grid has been able to adapt with our partners to be involved in impactful programs to help those who are impacted the most from COVID-19 while providing a revenue stream to help local food businesses,” said Bilodeaux.

If you know someone who has been impacted by COVID-19 (has lost their job, has experienced a reduction in working hours, is at high-risk for COVID-19, or their business has been negatively impacted), please share this information—they may be eligible to receive these limited-time benefits.
