The start of November not only brought on the start of cold weather and rain, but also brought back street sweeping parking enforcement. The COVID-19 pandemic temporarily lifted parking enforcement during street sweeping hours, as many vehicle owners followed shelter-in-place orders and street sweepers had to sweep around parked cars. However, cars parked for an extended period of time have allowed plenty of extra waste to accumulate on San José streets, which is why pre-pandemic enforcement of street sweep parking restrictions is back in place. We’ve left flyers on vehicles as a courtesy, so please don’t mistake these notices as parking tickets. To avoid a ticket on future street sweeping days, make sure to move your car according to posted restrictions. Here’s a list of quick tips for residential and downtown street sweeping enforcement:
Residential Street Sweeping
- Residential street sweeping will take place only once a month and always on the same day each month (see holiday street sweeping schedule).
- To ensure an effective sweep, we kindly ask vehicle owners to move their cars, as well as, garbage cans, trash, and yard waste from the street on sweep days.
- Protect your yard by trimming trees and plants at least 14 feet above street level to allow clearance for street sweepers.
Downtown Street Sweeping
- We will continue street sweeping in the Central Business District, Neighborhood Business District, and major arterial and commercial streets and bike routes.
- Street sweeping will still occur two to four times a month between 2 and 11 a.m.
Street sweepers in both residential and downtown areas will often pass through more than once, so please follow the times on posted street signs and keep your cars off streets during those hours.
