During the week of Sept. 10, Guadalupe Oak Grove Park received a very natural clearing courtesy of 425 goats. Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services staff coordinated the goat grazing as part of the park’s Vegetation Management Plan. The goats graze and help reduce fire risk and manage the understory vegetation. On Thursday, Sept. 13, 70 residents “Meet The Herder” and learned more about the benefits of using goats to manage vegetation. A “Friends of Guadalupe Oak Grove Park” is now forming, as residents are eager to see the park use grazing, as well as ensure that the blue oak savanna continues to thrive into the future.
