The City of San José is in the process of recruiting for a new Chief of Police following the retirement of Chief Eddie Garcia after 29 years of service to our community.

Community engagement and involvement has been a critical component of the process. The Candidate Forum is an opportunity for our community to be involved in the hiring process and get to know the candidates. During this live virtual session, the candidates will answer questions posed by San Joseans and San José Police Department personnel.

Candidates will make brief opening remarks and will then be asked a series of questions. The responses will be incorporated into their evaluation and used to inform the hiring decision.

The Forum will be followed by six Community Interview Panels over two days. These panels will include members of community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, neighborhood associations, racial equity/civil rights organizations, San José Police Department employees, the San José Police Officers Association, and partner law enforcement agencies. After the community interview panels, the candidate field will be narrowed for the final interview process.
