#PRNSBEST PARK RANGERS WORK HARD TO KEEP WILDLIFE AND RESIDENTS’ SAFE
AND REMIND RESIDENTS THAT FIREWORKS ARE ILLEGAL AND CAN CAUSE WILDFIRES
#PRNSBest Park Rangers are heroes within our department and community, prioritizing the safety and wellbeing of our wildlife and residents as well as educating individuals to promote a better parks system.
On Friday, May 28th Ranger Penny Lee responded to a report of an adult goose trapped in a concrete cavity between two wooden pillars at Lake Cunningham Regional Park. The exhausted animal was unable to free itself and was in dire need of assistance. Ranger Lee was able to free the animal by using a hammer and chisel to carefully remove concrete to free the trapped bird. After it was freed, the adult Canadian Goose safely retreated into the lake. The wildlife in our parks require care and protection, and our #PRNSBest are crucial to the wellbeing of the beloved wildlife that call our parks home.
Rangers quickly responded to reports of an adult goose being trapped between two wooden pillars at Lake Cunningham.
Once Ranger Lee successfully free the trapped animal, it safely returned to the lake unharmed.
Rangers also provide education to the public on safe interactions with the outdoors as well as natural, cultural and historical aspects of our parks. These PRNS employees have been on the front lines since the beginning of the pandemic, providing 7 days a week operations from opening to close.
With the Fourth of July holiday around the corner, many residents are looking forward to a day of fun and relaxation and celebrating a special day in our country.
However, our Park Rangers are preparing to work the Holiday so that we can enjoy it and to keep our community safe and prevent the risk of wildfires from illegal fireworks. Our park rangers want to remind all of you that fireworks are illegal in San Jose. They can easily start fires threatening people, wildlife, homes and businesses.
In our current drought conditions, fires can rapidly spread out of control. The San Jose Park Rangers want all of our visitors to enjoy the holiday safely and responsibly.
Park Rangers are responsible for a variety of duties, but their priority is always to keep members of our community safe.
