With Community Re-Opening, Temporary Resources May Be Ending

Here Are Resources Still Available For Residents

As our community gets healthier, we are moving towards a recovery phase with many temporary, emergency programs ending. However, many residents still need assistance, especially food resources, for basic necessities to keep their families healthy.

If you are in need of assistance, there are several resources you may be eligible for:
  • CalFresh Benefits & One-on-One Application Assistance: This program provides one-on-one CalFresh Benefits application assistance over the phone for older adults and individuals with disabilities. Those interested should call 408-350-3200 and select option no. 1. Meals on Wheels: This program provides homebound adults 60 years and older with nutritious meals to their door. Learn more about available services. Those who are interested should call 408-350-3200 and select option no. 2
  • Senior Nutrition Program: Many cities in Santa Clara County, in conjunction with the County of Santa Clara provide a non-delivered nutritious lunch meal to older adults 60+. These well-balanced meals meet County Health standards and must be picked up in person. For more information on this program, visit https://bit.ly/3dmjGLd for a map of locations, contact information, and hours of operation. Free Groceries: Our community partners are providing free fresh fruits, vegetables and pantry staples for individuals and families in need. Those interested can call 1-800-984-3663 (Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.) or text “GETFOOD” to 408-455-5181.

Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels can provide eligible seniors a nutritious meal to their doors.

In addition to the above resources, individuals have access to general food resource information:
  • General COVID-19 Information is available 24/7 and Interactive Food Map for Santa Clara County only by sending an email to COVIDFoodAssistance@sanjoseca.gov. Visit siliconvalleystrong.org and use the interactive food distribution map on the homepage. Call 211 or text your zip code to 898211
  • Feeding America’s Food Bank Database are for those interested in contacting their local community food bank. Interested individuals can visit the Feeding America website to find the closest food bank in their area at https://www.feedingamerica.org/find-your-local-foodbank
  • California Food Pantry and Food Bank Database lists California food pantries and food banks throughout the United States for individuals interested in seeking free food resources. https://www.freefood.org/s/california
With San José vaccinating more of its residents every day, our community is getting healthier and moving towards recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Sustainable, non-temporary programs such as the ones listed above can become more important to your family’s health and finding food resources.
