In Santa Clara County, 81.4% of residents 12 and over are fully vaccinated or have received the initial dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

These numbers are encouraging and keeping within the City’s goal of having 85% of its residents fully vaccinated by August 1.

Unfortunately, that means not everyone has been fully vaccinated. In fact, our residents ages 12-17 have the lowest vaccination rate in the county at only 57.8% receiving at least one dose.

To encourage our young residents to get an initial dose or complete their full vaccination, the City of San José has partnered with community organizations to make it more exciting and fun to get vaccinated.

Recently, the City held a youth vaccination event sponsored by our #SiliconValleyStrongHeroes Southwest Airlines that was complete with games, workshops, and a chance to win free airline tickets!

On Friday, June 25th, the youth vaccination event sponsored by Southwest Airlines was held at Biblioteca Latinoamerica Branch Library in San José, where individuals ages 12 and older could receive a free vaccination.

Those who attended or brought an unvaccinated friend or family member to receive a vaccination were given five tickets to enter a drawing for the chance to win two Southwest Airlines roundtrip tickets.

In addition to the ticket donation, a podcasting workshop, interactive games, and access to San José Public Library (SJPL) computers and hotspots were offered as fun activities for event-goers.

These exciting perks serve not only as an incentive to get Santa Clara County’s youth interested in receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, but are a thank you to those individuals who are doing their part to get vaccinated. By working together and getting vaccinated when it is your turn, we can make this community safer for all.

Our #SiliconValleyStrongHero volunteers are a crucial part in vaccinating our community and advocating for the health and safety of Santa Clara County residents.

Thank you to the #SiliconValleyStrongHeroes at Southwest Airlines for sponsoring the event, as well as all the healthcare workers, volunteers, and City of San José employees who made this event possible.

All individuals ages 12+ are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Visit sccfreevax.org to make an appointment.
