#PRNSBEST CENTERS’ STAFF OPEN AND PROVIDE SHELTER AND SAFETY WHEN ITS HOT

CAMDEN COMMUNITY CENTER BECOMES CAMDEN COOLING CENTER OVER THE WEEKEND

This past weekend, the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for the San Francisco Bay Area, including San José, with temperatures reaching the 90’s and above.

Unfortunately, when it gets that hot for extended periods of time, it can be dangerous with heat-related illnesses that could even be life threatening.

To offer residents a way to stay cool and safe, the City opened cooling centers at the Edenvale and Dr. Roberto Cruz Alum Rock libraries, along with Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services’ Camden Community Center where the #PRNSBest staff welcomed residents and their families this past weekend from 1-9 p.m.

The Camden Center team was on site to ensure guests were comfortable. During their visit, residents had access to bottled water, free WIFI, and outlets to charge devices. Face coverings were required for those inside the centers to ensure the safety of residents and staff.

“Not everyone has air conditioning in their homes,” said Brenda Luna, staff member at Camden Community Center. “Cooling centers are a good way for residents to get out of the heat while being cautious about heat-related safety concerns.”

Cooling centers are designated spaces in libraries, community centers, or other city spaces where residents can relax and escape the heat.
