SJ Conservation Corps is a Pillar for Packaging Food for Distribution

“We pride ourselves in providing a quality high school education and valuable life and work skills for San José's vulnerable youth,” says Dorsey Moore, Executive Director of San José Conservation Corp (SJCC). This week’s #SiliconValleyStrongHeroes are the leaders and youth in this program who help make our community safer.

As a non-profit organization, SJCC has been a helpful resource for the San José community. Since the start of the pandemic, they’ve helped close to 100 people daily through around the clock response services to community members at different emergency shelters throughout the county.

They have also been the backbone to numerous organizations through packing and packaging food for distribution. In the last two months, Second Harvest of Silicon Valley has packaged and distributed over a million boxes of food. And SJCC has been there day-in and day-out lending their assistance in this important task.

In the last year, SJCC has partnered with the city, and with Second Harvest of Silicon Valley to distribute meals and to offer food resources to our residents. In addition to these services, SJCC has also helped with blight removal in the city and helping to beautify San José.

The mission of the SJCC is to create programming and opportunity that untaps the true potential of San Jose’s vulnerable youth and prepare them for opportunities in higher education and a living wage career. Through their on-site charter high school and paid job training, they serve young adults who have been disconnected from mainstream education through this all-around program.
