#SILICONVALLEYSTRONGHEROES Community Organizations Promote Neighborhood Building During National Night Out

"Viva Parks is a program put together by the City of San José that promotes health, wellness, and fun within communities by providing resources and opportunities for engagement. It is important for us to host a National Night Out (NNO) site and let our residents know that we're here for them,” says Ken Johnson, Community Coordinator for San José’s Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services.

National Night Out this year was held nationally, Tuesday, August 3rd, 2021. NNO is an annual community-building campaign that promotes positive relationships between the police, community, and neighborhood.

This week’s #SiliconValleyStrongHeroes are the individuals at Viva Parks and the organizations that participated in NNO, building community through dynamic and engaging programs.

In San José this year, National Night Out took place across the city as neighborhoods joined in to strengthen community spirit.

In addition to the many residents that came out for the events, multiple community-based organizations showed support at each of the locations.

A popular NNO location this year was at Emma Prusch Farm Park. Many groups were in attendance including District 5 Councilmember Magdalena Carrasco’s team who provided backpacks and coloring books to attendees.

Residents also had the opportunity to learn about the Veggielution Youth Garden which offers recreational opportunities and a way for residents of all ages and abilities to enjoy the outdoors and connect with family, friends and other community members.
