Mayor Liccardo Responds to President Trump Abandoning Efforts to Add Citizenship Question on 2020 Census
San José, Calif. – In response to the Trump Administration’s decision to abandon its efforts to include a citizenship question on the 2020 Census, San José Mayor Sam Liccardo released the following statement:
“I’m encouraged to see that the President’s attorneys have re-read Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution. We’re grateful to the attorneys and advocates who tirelessly fought this Administration’s attempt to stoke fear in our immigrant community and depress participation in the 2020 Census. In San José, we will continue fighting to ensure everyone counts, and protect critical funding for the essential services—such as healthcare, housing, and education—upon which all our residents depend.”
