San José Mayor Sam Liccardo’s Statement on the Victims of the Shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival

Post Date:07/30/2019

San José, Calif. – In response to yesterday’s tragic shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival – where several of the victims have been identified as San José residents – San José Mayor Sam Liccardo has issued the following statement:

“The losses of young Stephen Romero and Keyla Salazar leave our San José community in painful mourning. As their families and neighbors grasp for meaning in the deaths of these children and of Trevor Irby, we will do all that we can to support them and all of the victims of the Gilroy shootings. The thoughts and prayers that we send to their families come far too late to save Keyla and Stephen, so we must also pray for the collective strength and wisdom to end the scourge of gun violence in our communities.”
