DOT to Deploy Traffic Safety Message Boards as Daylight Saving Time Ends

Post Date:11/01/2024 9:00 AM

Daylight saving time is ending on Sunday, November 3, which means dark evenings will start earlier. As more people travel in the dark after daylight saving time ends, traffic fatalities and severe injuries increase during this time. This is especially concerning, as we are still a long way from our goal of zero fatalities. Traffic fatalities have sadly increased so far in 2024, compared to last year.

To help remind drivers to be safe and prevent crashes after the end of daylight saving time, we are placing several electronic message boards across San José from early November until mid-March 2025. These boards display messages that remind drivers to slow down and be aware of people walking across the road. You can find them at the following locations and on the listed dates. Please note that these locations and dates are subject to change. You will also find extra police presence near these locations, enforcing traffic laws.

Slow down, put your cell phone and other distractions away, and look out when it’s dark out!
