Happy New Year! We hope you had a fun and relaxing winter break. As we start the new year, let’s keep making safe and smart choices when traveling to and from school. Whether you walk, bike, roll, or ride in a car, every action helps keep our school community safe.
Stay Safe on Your Way to School
Safety is a team effort! When walking or biking, be alert, use crosswalks, and follow traffic signs. Drivers, remember to slow down in school zones, stay off your phone, and watch for people walking and biking. If you are getting dropped off or picked up, follow your school’s rules to keep things running smoothly. Let’s work together to make every trip safe and stress-free!
Seatbelt Safety
Wearing a seat belt is one of the simplest and most effective ways to stay safe in a vehicle. Seat belts reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a crash by about 50% by keeping passengers securely in place and working with airbags during collisions. To wear a seat belt correctly, make sure the lap belt rests snugly across your upper thighs, not your stomach, and the shoulder belt crosses the middle of your chest and rests on your shoulder—not your neck or face. Never tuck the shoulder belt under your arm or behind your back.
Here is the deal: it does no matter if you are riding in the front or the back—seat belts are a must. Even short trips around the corner can be dangerous without one. Be the kind of person who always buckles up and reminds others to do the same. If someone in the car isn’t wearing their seat belt, speak up—you could save their life. Buckling up takes just a few seconds, but it can make all the difference in the world.
Stay Safe: Walk and Bike Without Distractions

Walking and biking are fun and healthy ways to get around, but staying safe means paying attention. Being distracted, like looking at your phone or wearing headphones, can be dangerous when you are near traffic. Here are some important tips to keep in mind:
Walking Safely
Biking Smart
Remember: Cars are often moving faster than they seem, so do not assume it is safe to cross or merge. Stay alert, be seen, and follow the rules to keep yourself and others safe on the road!
