That’s the spirit behind our 2024 Community Impact Report, which highlights the incredible work of the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services (PRNS) team over the past year. Guided by the ActivateSJ Strategic Plan, we’ve continued to invest in programs, places, and partnerships that build healthy communities and inspire belonging across San José.

From vibrant community centers to clean, safe parks and innovative services for youth, seniors, and families, our work reaches every corner of the city. In 2024, we focused on delivering meaningful impact despite limited resources—because we believe every resident deserves access to spaces and programs that support wellness, learning, and joy.

Some highlights from this year’s report include:

• Expanded our new Neighborhood Engagement Model, helping neighborhoods build and strengthen connections.
• Welcomed the hard work of our dedicated staff and volunteers to improve parks and access to nature.
• Continued support for children, youth, and older adults through programs that promote physical activity, mental health, and social connection.
• Creative partnerships that brought new life to public spaces, from neighborhood activations to inclusive events.

The ActivateSJ Strategic Plan is the City of San José's Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services (PRNS) plan to maintain, improve and expand our facilities, programs, and services. The plan guides how we care for and develop a diverse park system and an abundance of recreation programs and services for all in San José.
