San José City Hall and City Offices Closed Oct. 13, 2025: While most City services will be closed in observance of the Indigenous Peoples' Day holiday, public safety and utility services will remain operational.
Customer Contact Center (San José 311): An answering service will provide information and assist callers. Non-emergency requests requiring follow-up will be routed to the proper department and handled during open business hours.
San José Public Library: All library branches will be closed, except for the King Library, which will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The library’s eBook collection, eLearning resources, and streaming services are always available at www.sjpl.org.
Garbage and Recycling Service: Garbage, recycling, and yard trimmings collection will not be affected by the holiday and will occur on your normal day. Residents can contact their garbage, recycling, junk pickup, and yard trimmings company or use San José 311 for more information. Visit www.sanjoseca.gov/311 to report missed collections and damaged carts or to change cart size. Visit www.sjenvironment.org/lookup to locate your collection companies.

Market Street Garage Façade Replacement: The Transportation Department is making changes to the exterior of the Market Street Garage from now until Feb. 2026. City of San José Career Expo: Do you want to work for the 12th largest city in the nation? On Thursday, Oct. 2, over 20 City departments will be at the Mexican Heritage Plaza hosting a career expo to share career opportunities, answer questions, and talk about what it’s like to work in public service. Annual Neighborhoods Conference: The third annual Neighborhoods Conference will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the City Hall Rotunda. This free event connects neighborhood leaders, City staff, and partner agencies to share resources, build community, and learn how to access City services that keep neighborhoods safe, clean, and engaged. October Park Volunteer Events: Volunteer to clean up San José parks with the Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department. All volunteers ages 6+ are welcome to participate. Participants under 18 are required to present a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Volunteers are given the necessary tools and training and are asked to bring a water bottle, snacks, and closed-toed shoes. October Events and Celebrations at SJPL: The San José Public Library (SJPL) invites the community to enjoy a variety of free cultural celebrations and festive events:
Now until Oct. 15: In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, SJPL is hosting programs that celebrate Hispanic and Latin American culture, including dance classes, concerts, storytimes, and crafts.

Oct. 5-11: SJPL joins libraries across the nation to celebrate and promote the freedom to read during Banned Books Week. During this week, enjoy a variety of free library events for all ages.
