San José City Hall, City Offices Closed Jan. 19, 2026: While most City services will be closed in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, public safety and utility services will operate.
  • Garbage and Recycling Service: Garbage, recycling, and yard trimmings collection will not be affected by the holiday and will occur on your normal day. Residents can contact their garbage, recycling, junk pickup, and yard trimmings company or use San José 311 for more information. Visit www.sanjoseca.gov/311 to report missed collections and damaged carts or to change cart size. Visit www.sjenvironment.org/lookup to locate your collection companies.

    • Holiday Tree Recycling: The curbside collection of holiday trees will be on your regular collection day until Jan. 30. Remove stands, tinsel, and decorations, cut the trees into 5-foot pieces, and set them out by 6 a.m. Multi-family dwelling property managers should contact GreenWaste at 408-283-4800 to arrange for tree collection. Information about holiday tree collection is available in Spanish and Vietnamese, or view additional information through the Holiday Collection information section Residential Recycling and Garbage page.

    • Extra Garbage: Have too much holiday trash? Extra Garbage Stickers are available for $6.25 at San José Libraries, Lucky, and Safeway stores, or at the cashier window at San José City Hall.

  • San José Clean Energy Customer Contact Center: The San José Clean Energy contact center will be closed. For more information and self-service options, visit www.sanjosecleanenergy.org or email info@sanjosecleanenergy.org.

  • Customer Contact Center (San José 311): San José 311 will be closed. An answering service will provide information and assist callers. Non-emergency requests requiring follow-up will be routed to the proper department and handled during open business hours.

  • San José Animal Care and Services: The San José Animal Care Center (ACS) will be closed on Jan. 19. For more information about finding your lost pet, visit www.sanjoseca.gov/your-government/departments-offices/animal-care-services/pet-parent-services/find-a-lost-pet.

  • San José Mineta International Airport (SJC): SJC Administrative offices will be closed. For Lost & Found items, passengers can fill out a form at SJC’s website, and for urgent parking issues, they can call 408-441-5579.

  • San José Public Library: All San José Public Library locations will be closed on Jan. 19. The library’s eBook collection, eLearning resources, and streaming services are always available at www.sjpl.org.

  • San José Community Centers and Regional Parks: Visit the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services Seasonal Closure page for park and community center hours. (www.sanjoseca.gov/your-government/departments-offices/parks-recreation-neighborhood-services/general-information/seasonal-closures).

Super Bowl LX arrives at San José Mineta International Airport (SJC): Passengers traveling through SJC can now experience Super Bowl LX–themed décor and branded merchandise throughout the terminals. This marks the first of several major sporting events coming to San José in 2026. Excitement at the Airport officially kicks off Sunday, Feb. 1, when the two teams arrive in San José ahead of a full week of Bay Area–wide festivities. Storm Preparedness Tips: Storm season is upon us. Following are tips that can help you and your loved ones stay safe:
  • Check your street gutters and remove debris to prevent blockage.
  • Charge your devices, locate flashlights and batteries.
  • Get sandbags to route water away from your property.
  • Sign up for alerts at www.AlertSCC.org.
  • Report blocked drains and other storm-related issues, such as broken traffic signals or downed trees, at 3-1-1.

Helpful Tips for Flood Preparation: The City of San José encourages residents to be prepared for the upcoming rainy months by following helpful tips:
  • Create an emergency plan in advance of a rain event and discuss it with your household.
  • Create a three-day emergency kit with essentials like non-perishable food and water.
  • Check your location on the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood maps to know your flood risk.
  • Protect your home from flood threats by making note of free sandbag locations.

San José Clean Energy (SJCE) Community Energy Credit: Energy costs were lower than expected in 2025, so all eligible SJCE residential customers will automatically receive the SJCE Community Energy Credit. This is a one-time $40 bill credit that will appear on the January PG&E bill. Contact customer service at info@sanjosecleanenergy.org or 833-432-2454 for questions.

Parks Recreation and Neighborhood Services Conference

Neighborhood Forum on Parks: Neighborhood leaders are invited to share thoughts on the future of San José’s parks. The next BeautifySJ Neighborhood Forum is happening Saturday, Jan. 31, at Southside Community Center (5585 Cottle Road) from 9 to 11 a.m. The morning will begin with a brief, large-group presentation providing context on the parks system, maintenance challenges, and funding opportunities. Attendees will then break into small, facilitated roundtable discussions to share priorities and feedback. Your input will directly inform how the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services Department thinks about investing resources. Register at www.bit.ly/sjforum2026.   • Silicon Valley Reads 2026: In partnership with the Santa Clara County Library District and Santa Clara County Office of Education, the SJPL is thrilled to participate in Silicon Valley Reads, a community engagement program that selects an annual theme with accompanying books and events. This year’s theme, Bridges to Belonging, will promote building unity and fostering connections. The SJPL will host multiple events in the next few months, starting with a kickoff on Thursday, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m. at De Anza College.   • 13th Annual LocalLit: The SJPL and SJSU King Library invite you to support over a dozen local authors at their 13th Annual LocalLit event on Saturday, Jan. 24, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the King Library. Enjoy light refreshments and snacks while listening to authors share their stories and experiences with writing and publishing their work. Authors will also host a Q&A session and have copies of their books for sale. This event is free and open to everyone.
