Bikeshare is Coming Soon to East San José
Bay Wheels is coming to East San José in the summer 2026. The East San José Bikeshare Expansion will connect Mayfair and Alum Rock neighborhoods to Downtown San José and the Berryessa BART Station. This expansion will make it easier to bike to work and school, run errands, and make other daily trips.
Residents who qualify for the Bay Wheels program can purchase an annual membership for just $5, with $1 rides for each trip. More details about the launch and how to sign up will be shared soon.
Pa’Lante Microtransit is Coming to East San José
East San José Pa’Lante Microtransit Service will launch in late fall of 2026. This two-year pilot will provide on-demand, affordable, and fully electric transportation for East San José residents.
Pa’Lante will offer corner-to-corner service that can be booked by phone or mobile app. Door-to-door service is available for seniors, parents with young children, and people with disabilities. Fares will align with VTA transit rates, with free transfers between Pa'Lante to VTA. The service will operate with an all-electric fleet, including wheelchair-accessible vehicles. Rideshare cars will be bike-friendly to support multimodal trips.
Other Transportation Programs
In case you are not able to bike or the Pa’Lante program does not serve your area, here are some other programs you may qualify for:
- Clipper START: Clipper START is an income-based program that provides single-ride discounts. Participants save 50% on all Bay Area public transit.
- Clipper Youth/Senior Discount Card: The Clipper Youth/Senior Discount Card provides significant fare reductions (50% for youth, ~62.5% for seniors) on Bay Area transit.
- Clipper Access: Qualified individuals with disabilities may receive a card that provides reduced fares on fixed-route transit, rail, and ferry systems throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
- VTA Summer Youth Pass: Youth 18 and under enjoy unlimited rides on VTA buses and light rail with the Summer Youth Pass from June through August.
