San José City Hall, City Offices Closed March 31, 2026: While most City services will be closed in observance of the Cesar Chavez holiday, public safety and utility services will operate.
  • Garbage and Recycling Service: Garbage, recycling, and yard trimmings collection will not be affected by the holiday and will occur on your normal day. Residents can contact their garbage, recycling, junk pickup, and yard trimmings company or use San José 311 for more information. Visit www.sanjoseca.gov/311 to report missed collections, damaged carts, or to request a change in cart size. Visit www.sjenvironment.org/lookup to locate your collection companies.

  • San José Clean Energy Customer Contact Center: The San José Clean Energy contact center will remain open on March 31 for customer care. For more information and self-service options, visit www.sanjosecleanenergy.org or email info@sanjosecleanenergy.org.

  • Customer Contact Center (San José 311): San José 311 will be closed. An answering service will provide information and assist callers. Non-emergency requests requiring follow-up will be routed to the proper department and handled during open business hours.

  • San José Animal Care and Services: The San José Animal Care Center will be closed. For more information about finding your lost pet, visit www.sanjoseca.gov/your-government/departments-offices/animal-care-services/pet-parent-services/find-a-lost-pet.

  • San José Mineta International Airport (SJC): SJC Administrative offices will be closed. For Lost & Found items, passengers can fill out a form available on SJC’s website, and for urgent parking issues, they can call 408-441-5579.

  • San José Public Library: All San José Public Library locations will be closed. The library’s eBook collection, eLearning resources, and streaming services are always available at www.sjpl.org.

  • San José Community Centers and Regional Parks: Visit the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services Seasonal Closure page for park and community center hours. (www.sanjoseca.gov/your-government/departments-offices/parks-recreation-neighborhood-services/general-information/seasonal-closures).

  • Happy Hollow Park & Zoo: Happy Hollow will be closed. For up-to-date operating hours, visit www.happyhollow.org/hours-directions/.

  • Development Services Permits Center: The Permit Center will be closed. Online permitting services will be available at www.SJpermits.org.
Spring Forward on Sunday, March 8: Don’t forget to set your clocks to one hour ahead in preparation for daylight saving time. Changing your clock the night before will help you transition into spring.

Pop-Up Permits for San Jose Building Permits Close to Home

Pop-Up Permits: The Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement Department continues its event series that provides homeowners and contractors the chance to talk to a building inspector or permit specialist to get feedback on building plans and a better understanding of the permitting process. The next event will take place on Saturday, March 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Berryessa Community Center. For more information, visit www.bit.ly/SJpopuppermits.

New Terminal A Public Art: Passengers traveling through SJC can now discover a series of photographs from Invisible Skies, created by artist Elizabeth Turk. The series captures the glowing “living constellation” created during a community art event at San José City Hall on January 31, 2026 that brought together more than 2,000 participants. The artworks are located in the Power Suite in Terminal A and in the corridor between Gates 16 and 17. The Public Art Program at the San José Office of Economic Development & Cultural Affairs (OEDCA) manages the program in close collaboration with the Airport Public Art Program.

March Madness Terminal Activations: As San José gears up to host March Madness, the annual NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament being played at the SAP Center, SJC is ready to welcome visitors, participants, friends, and family with new signage, festive decorations and engaging terminal activations throughout the travel period of March 26-28.

Happy Hollow Park & Zoo DJ Danny

Happy Hollow Park & Zoo Turns 65: Happy Hollow will kick-off the 65th anniversary celebration with a birthday party for Danny the Dragon, the park and zoo’s beloved mascot. Join Danny and the Happy Hollow crew on Friday, March 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a celebration to remember, with festivities happening throughout the weekend. More activities will be announced throughout the spring and summer, so stay tuned.

March Park Volunteer Events: Volunteer to clean up San José parks with the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services Department. All volunteers ages 6+ are welcome to participate. Participants under 18 are required to present a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Volunteers are given the necessary tools and training and are asked to bring a water bottle, snacks, and closed-toe shoes. 2026 Library Cards: As the City of San José continues to prepare for March Madness SJ26 activations and other major events and experiences coming to the region, SJPL has released three exclusive, limited-edition SJ26-themed library cards. 10th Annual Nowruz Celebration: Your invited to celebrate the Persian New Year, Nowruz, at the San José City Hall Rotunda on Saturday, March 14, from 2 to 5 p.m. The event will include remarks from San José Councilmembers and will feature performances by Amir School of Music and Beshkan Dance Academy, as well as fun activities provided by Bri Crabtree’s Silly Circus. FREE Tax Help: Prepare your 2025 taxes with assistance from volunteers from Tax-Aid, TaxFellows, and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance programs. These organizations provide free tax preparation for qualifying taxpayers with an income of less than $70,000. Tax help is available at select SJPL locations, and some locations have volunteers who may assist in other languages, including Spanish, Vietnamese, and Chinese.
