Happy Arbor Day! In celebration of the day, we’d like to shine a light on our Free Street Tree Planting Program.

What Is the Free Street Tree Planting Program?

This program allows San José property owners to add trees in the public right of way next to their properties. Property owners are eligible for:

• A free tree
• Planting and staking

Properties located in Community Forest Investment project areas are eligible for three years of establishment services. Check out our map to see if you qualify for a free street tree.

Note that property owners are responsible for watering, upkeep, and costs related to tree care after planting if their property is outside the limits of this program.

What Are the Benefits of Trees?

Trees are crucial to our wellbeing, and not just on Arbor Day. They help provide shade, make the air cleaner, and make our city look nicer. This program helps us add more trees to San José, especially to areas that have been historically overlooked.
