Drunk and impaired driving is on the rise in San José. In 2025, 22% of all traffic fatalities were DUI-related. And in only the first four months of 2026, close to 30% of all fatalities were DUI-related.

Driving under the influence is dangerous and has the potential to change your life forever.

To remind drivers of the dangers of driving under the influence, the Department of Transportation has installed electronic message boards across San José. Most of these signs can be found on downtown streets and in parking garages. And others can be found on streets with repeated instances of fatalities. These signs display short messages in both English and Spanish.

The City of San José has a goal of eliminating fatal and severe-injury traffic crashes. We need your help to meet this goal.
