The following is information about the City of San José’s response to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and reduce the number of people infected.
On the evening of March 9, County Health Officer Dr. Sara Cody officially announced the issuance of a legal Order requiring cancellation of mass gatherings (public or private) consisting of more than 1,000 persons and published new recommendations to help protect residents from COVID-19. The order goes into effect at 12 a.m. on March 11.

Updates on City Services and/or Operations
- City Council Meeting: Today’s San José City Council meeting will be available to be streamed live from the City’s YouTube channel. Members of the public attending in-person will be asked to observe the County’s guidance for social distancing during the meeting. An overflow room for the public will be located in Wing Room 120, adjacent to City Council Chambers.
- Housing & Community Development Commission: The HCDC meeting on March 12, 2020, will go on as scheduled at 5:45 pm in City Hall wing rooms 118-119.
- Arts Commission: The Arts Commission Meeting scheduled for March 16, 2020, has been canceled.
