It's important to practice good hygiene in order to keep yourself and others healthy, that's why the San José Fire Department would like to share several tips to help you prevent the spread of the flu and other viruses in the San José community:
- Wash your hands often. Use soap and warm water, especially before eating and after using the restroom. Lather soap and scrub for at least 20 seconds before rinsing. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizers (with at least 60% alcohol) if soap and water aren't available.
- Cough or sneeze into a tissue, sleeve or arm. Do not cough or sneeze into your hands. Always wash your hands after using tissues.
- Avoid touching your face. Touching your eyes, nose or mouth allows germs to enter your body.
- Stay home if you are sick. If you are have symptoms like coughing, sneezing or a running nose, stay home and limit close contact with other individuals. Get plenty of rest, drink plenty of fluids, eat healthy foods, and manage your stress to keep your immunity strong. Contact your health care provider if you need medical attention.
