The City's highest priority is to ensure compliance with the Santa Clara County Public Health Order to slow and reduce the spread of coronavirus and protect our most at-risk population.
The April 29, 2020 County Order allows all construction projects to proceed starting on May 4, 2020, subject to the following safety protocols:
- Appendix B1-Small Construction Project Safety Protocol
- Appendix B2-Large Construction Project Safety Protocol
Construction Hours Extended for Larger Projects - On May 21, 2020, City Manager Dave Sykes signed an Emergency Order to extend construction hours 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays, for project sites with an approved development permit or other planning approval that are at least 50,000 square feet of development or at least 50 residential units. The Emergency Order is effective immediately; the Order is being brought to the City Council for ratification on June 2 or June 9, 2020.
IMPORTANT: Before you proceed with construction or scheduling an inspection, please make sure your project is in compliance with the protocols relevant to your project. Complying with these protocols is essential to the safety of workers, inspectors, and anyone entering or leaving the project site.
Inspections may be scheduled online at www.sjpermits.org.
Depending on project scope, we may inspect single-family projects via video conferencing. For projects such as replacing a failed water heater or furnace, inspectors will provide video inspections on the same day as installation. Obtain the permit at www.sjpermits.org.
