Add a Property to Your SJPermits Account
When you, as a property owner, set up an account at SJPermits.org, you must link one or more properties to your account in order to begin the permit application process. The instructions here also apply to adding a property after you have established the account.
TIP: When in the SJPermits.org system, go to Update Personal Info to verify your information is up to date and correct. Unless you are setting up a Contractor account, do not enter Contractor’s License or Tax License.
To begin, you must have:
- The assessor’s parcel number (APN) for the property (see www.sccassessor.org)
- Legal name of the property wwner
Adding a Property to Your SJPermits Account
Logging In and Checking Linked Properties
-
Open the Login or Register page.
-
Enter your email address and password.
-
Scroll to Properties I Own. If no linked properties, the following will display:
Add a Property
- Click Add Properties I Own. Search for the property by Address or APN. Scroll to the bottom of the page to view the search results – see example below.
Example of APN search and results
- Verify the correct property that you own is listed and click Select.
Validate APN and Ownership
- After selecting a property, a screen appears (below). Enter the APN and the owner's legal name as it appears in the property records.
Example: The legal name “The Jim Tester Trust” or “Jim Tester” or “Tester” are names that would allow a successful link under the property owner legal name “The Jim Tester Trust.”
- If you successfully added your property, a green message appears. The next time you apply for an online permit, you will select from the list of properties that are linked to your account.
If you entered an incorrect APN or incorrect Legal Owner Name, you will see a red error message:
- Double-check the information that has been entered and try again.
- If you are unable to link your property, email us at OnlinePermits@sanjoseca.gov. Include your name, the property address, APN, the full legal name of the owner, and a description of the trouble or error message.
