Upload Your Project Files

Here are instructions for uploading project files for review by the Building Division, Planning Division, Public Works Department, and Fire Protection Bureau. 

These instructions are only for projects that do not use SJePlans.

Before Uploading

FORMAT THE FILES. Before uploading, please be sure that files are formatted and named according to these Electronic Plan Review guidelines.

ZIP THE FILES. If you have multiple files, we strongly prefer that you bundle them in a zip folder. How to zip your files:

  1. Select your files in Windows Explorer by holding the shift key and left-clicking the desired files. This will highlight the files.
  2. Right-click the highlighted files, then select  “Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder”.
  3. After zipping your folder, name it according to the Plan Check number or Property Address, as instructed in the Electronic Plan Review guidelines.

STEPS TO UPLOAD THE FILES

You may want to open a second screen window so that these instructions remain visible while your work in SJPermits.

Important! Note that uploading files does not automatically initiate any action by the City. You must have an active application in progress or be initiating a new non-SJePlans application within the next 30 days and notify the staff handling your application that you have uploaded the files. 

STEP 1 - Log in to SJPermits.org

You must have an SJPermits account to upload files. See Account Setup Guide at Help for SJPermits.

STEP 2 - The MY SERVICES window will open. Click “Electronic File Upload”   

STEP 3 -  Search for Project Property by Address or APN

STEP 4 -  Select Search Results

Select the correct project address by clicking the address row. 

If there is more than one matching result for the correct address, any match/row may be selected.

STEP 5 -  Choose Files

You will need to repeat these steps for each file to be uploaded. 

  1. Click “Choose Files” button.
  2. Locate the project files on your computer. Select the project files or a zipped folder and click “Open.”
  3. Click “Upload”

STEP 6 – Verify Files 

Verify that your files have successfully uploaded. 

You may view and delete uploaded files for 1 day. 

All uploaded files will be automatically deleted after 90 days.

STEP 7 – Notify City Staff

After verifying your files have has been successfully uploaded, close the window. 

You can repeat these steps to view previously uploaded files for 1 day. 

If you have additional projects to upload, use the “Return to Search Page” button to locate another project property to upload files. 

Following the instructions in your application, notify City staff who are working on your project that the files have been uploaded. Uploading files will not automatically initiate any action by the City.
