2026 Campaign Ads

Pursuant to San Jose Municipal Code 12.06.1020, all campaign ads for City of San Jose races should be published to the City of San Jose website.

Any independent committee for whom the City Clerk is the regular filing official must provide within twenty-four (24) hours of its distribution, dissemination, or publication a legible copy to the City Clerk of any advertisement as follows:

1. If over two hundred (200) printed items were mailed or otherwise distributed, a copy of the advertisement must be provided.

2. If the advertisement is audio or video, including if distributed solely through the internet or other electronic means, a script must be provided.

3. If the advertisement is an electronic or digital advertisement, a copy of the advertisement as distributed must be provided.

4. Implementation of all or parts of this subsection D will be determined by the City Clerk upon a finding that the budgetary and technical resources are available and allocated to collect and process any advertisements that are required to be filed under this subsection.

Submission Guidelines:

  1. Include a clear title on your submission (e.g., “Mailer,” “Digital Ad,” “Script”). If no title is provided, we will assign one and it may not reflect your intent.
  2. Submit an ADA WCAG 2.1–compliant version of your advertisement whenever possible. This includes:
    • Proper tagging
    • Alternative text for images
    • Logical reading order for screen readers
      [See accessibility requirements link]
  3. Preferred formats: Word (.docx) or PowerPoint (.pptx)
These formats best support accessibility and will result in faster processing.
  4. Accepted formats: .doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt, .pdf
  5. Important: PDFs and TXT files are the most difficult to remediate for accessibility. Submissions in these formats, or in non-structured formats (e.g., design files), may be reformatted or simplified to meet accessibility requirements.
  6. If submitting a PDF, you may use Adobe Acrobat’s accessibility checker or similar tools to improve compliance prior to submission.

Please email a copy to elections@sanjoseca.gov.

The presence of a campaign ad on the City's webpage does not constitute an endorsement of the candidate or the views reflected in the ad.
