Building Trust. Promoting Dialogue. Empowering Communities.

At the heart of our mission is you — the community. The Office of the Independent Police Auditor (IPA) is committed to ensuring transparent, accountable, and fair policing in San José. Through meaningful engagement, we aim to strengthen trust between residents and law enforcement.

What We Do in the Community

👥 Community Presentations
We host and participate in forums, town halls, and workshops to educate residents on the IPA’s role, your rights, and how to file a complaint or commendation.

🎓 Youth Engagement
Through programs like Youth Know Your Rights and partnerships with local schools, we empower young people to understand their rights and responsibilities in interactions with law enforcement.

🤝 Listening Sessions & Outreach Events
We attend community events year-round to listen to your concerns, answer questions, and ensure all voices are heard — especially those in historically underrepresented neighborhoods.

📢 Public Education Campaigns
We provide multilingual materials and resources to keep our community informed about police oversight and civilian rights.
