How Can I help My Local Community Cat Colony?

If you choose to support community cats in your neighborhood, one of the most important things you can do is help ensure the cats receive spay/neuter and basic veterinary care.

The following organizations offer low-cost community cat services in the area:

  • Humane Society of Silicon Valley - Community Cat Spay & Neuter

Even sponsoring the cost of one spay or neuter surgery can make a meaningful difference in helping control the number of free-roaming cats in our community. You can sponsor a surgery by visiting our donation page.

Feeding Community Cats

We do not recommend feeding community cats. However, if feeding has already become a routine, please follow these guidelines:

  • Feed once per day only

  • Provide no more than ½ cup of food per cat

  • Leave food out for no longer than 30–60 minutes

  • Remove any uneaten food to avoid attracting wildlife such as raccoons, mice, rats, skunks, and opossums

Feeding should not make community cats solely dependent on one person for food.
