Housing remains one of our greatest challenges in San José. While we have much work to do, Mayor Liccardo has offered bold plans and innovative solutions to help our city build the housing -- much of it affordable -- that we need.
Building a San Jose for All
Under Mayor Liccardo's leadership, San Jose has welcomed more than 8000 homes into the market-rate housing development pipeline. San Jose has helped add more than 2000 affordable homes into the development pipeline.
A Bold Housing Plan
This housing comes as a result of Mayor Liccardo's housing plan -- launched in late 2017 -- which aims to build 25,000 new homes in San Jose, 10,000 of them affordable.
Protections Against Discrimination
Mayor Liccardo secured City Council approval for strong anti-discrimination policies to prohibit landlords from rejecting a tenant with a Veteran's or Section 8 housing voucher, while also streamlining processes and cutting red tape for tenants.
Mayor Liccardo has championed inclusionary housing policies to spur the development of affordable housing, build reserves to fund affordable development, and help San Joseans of all income levels find a home.
Affordability by Design
Mayor Liccardo has championed "affordable housing by design" by cutting fees and restrictions for the construction of innovative housing models -- like co-living units and modular housing.
