Felita: Overcoming Physical and Mental Health Challenges

Felita suffered from significant physical and mental health challenges while she was unhoused. Fortunately, she was able to move off the street and into the City's Bernal interim housing community. Once there, she prioritized her health and wellbeing, and focused on stabilizing her life.

Thanks to the amazing work of in-home caregivers, her health improved and she received mobility devices to help her get around. Felita then shifted her focus to reaching her housing goals with the assistance of her case manager.

Felita was eventually approved for a studio apartment in Mountain View. HomeFirst, which operates the Bernal interim housing community, provided financial assistance by covering Felita's first month rent and security deposit. HomeFirst also provided a housing kit, which included cleaning, bedding, bathroom, kitchen and hygiene supplies.

Felita was excited to find permanent housing and explained that becoming self-sufficient helped her overcome depression. Felita can't wait to see what this next chapter in her life brings. She added "when one door closes, many others open!"
