Overnight Warming Locations
Overnight Warming Locations (OWLs) are open every night from December 1 through April 31, ensuring our unhoused residents have safe places to sleep during the coldest months. OWL beds are available by referral only. This is part of San José's plan to engage with our homeless residents, provide opportunities for shelter, and offer supportive services. Pets are allowed too. During the winter of 2025-26, OWLs will operate at the Evergreen Branch Library and Roosevelt Community Center.
Homeward bound
Homeward Bound is a program that helps unhoused individuals stabilize their lives by reconnecting them with family or friends who can provide housing and support. It is one of many supportive services available to our unhoused residents. Individuals who wish to participate will go through a process to confirm their eligibility. If they are eligible, the City will provide a train and bus ticket to their destination. Anyone interested in this program should contact City staff at homewardbound@sanjoseca.gov.
You can read more about the program in Chinese, English, Spanish and Vietnamese.
Emergency and Interim Housing

Safe parking
The City of San José contracts with service providers to operate two safe parking sites -- one at the Santa Teresa light rail station, and one on Berryessa Road in north San José. Safe parking provides security for participants, and it helps connect participants with supportive services, including employment search assistance and housing locator assistance.
