Alexis and Stephanie: Finding Stable Housing for a Couple with a Newborn

Alexis is a formerly homeless young man who was brought to the City's Evacuee Transition Facility (ETF) during the severe winter storms in 2023 that flooded waterways. When the weather cleared and the ETF site closed, Alexis and his partner Stephanie were able to move into the City's interim housing community on Rue Ferrari. Interim housing is a key component of the City's strategy to end unsheltered homelessness by building out capacity in our housing continuum.

Alexis and Stephanie were excited to be in a stable situation. Their goals were to become self-sufficient and find permanent housing. During their time at Rue Ferrari, the couple received case management from HomeFirst, life skills training, and housing search assistance. They also welcomed a baby into their family!

Their hard work paid off when they found permanent housing through the City's Rapid Rehousing System. Alexis, Stephanie and their baby moved into a one-bedroom apartment. They are beyond thankful for this fresh start. Alexis has even asked HomeFirst if he can begin working with homeless residents so he can assist them in the same way he was helped.
