James: Military Veteran Leaves the Street, Finds Housing
James is a military veteran who became homeless due to a combination of challenges. Fortunately, James was able to find a temporary place to stay in the City's interim housing program. While there, he took advantage of many resources, including self-help classes to improve his coping skills, and assistance in pursuing job opportunities and permanent housing.
Throughout his stay in interim housing, James worked closely with a case manager and housing consultant from HomeFirst who helped connect James with supportive services and apply to benefits programs for which he qualified. After less than six months, James found an apartment! He moved into a one-bedroom unit at Hacienda Senior Living. With the assistance of HomeFirst, he settled in quickly, handling tasks that many people take for granted, like setting up PG&E service and WiFi.
Congratulations James! Thank you for your service to our country and best wishes in your new home.
