Nancy: Power of Positivity
Nancy is an older resident who stayed for some time at the City's Rue Ferrari interim housing community. She moved into the community with her dog Buster.
During her time at Rue Ferrari, she was very engaged with her case manager and attended many workshops, including sessions to help develop financial literacy and life skills. Nancy did everything she could to ensure she would be ready when a permanent housing opportunity presented itself. This included obtaining copies of all necessary legal documentation.
She maintained a positive, healthy attitude and immersed herself in a variety of activities, such as rock painting, embroidery, crochet, bible study and pet care. Nancy also spent time in the community garden, planting vegetables and pulling weeds. These activities helped keep her mind busy and built up her trust in the housing process.
Through the Rapid Rehousing System, and with the help of her case manager, Nancy was able to find an apartment that she hopes will be her forever home. She and Buster are loving their new home and feel blessed to have received so much assistance and support from the HomeFirst team at Rue Ferrari.
