What is the City's recruitment process?

The selection process will consist of an evaluation of the candidate’s training and experience based on the application and answers to the supplemental questions. Candidates who are selected to move forward in the recruitment process may participate in one or more interviews. For certain positions, an additional phase of the selection process is a practical/writing exercise.

Are internships or volunteer opportunities available?

The City of San José offers internships throughout the year as needed and are designed to help undergraduate and graduate students gain experience at the public sector level in relation to their academic and professional interests.

Internships have flexible hours and are a great opportunity to learn more about working at a public agency. Candidates must be currently enrolled at an accredited college or university at the undergraduate or graduate level to apply.
