MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS for JOB CLASS SPECIFICATIONS
Minimum qualifications are those qualifications necessary to successfully perform the essential duties of the job from the very first day on the job. All applicants must possess the minimum qualifications to be considered for open positions.
Most job class specifications include education, experience, required licenses and certifications as part of the minimum qualifications. Some class specifications list “acceptable substitutions” for these minimum qualifications.
The minimum qualifications and acceptable substitutions described on job class specifications represent the typical way to obtain the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential duties of the job. Any combination of education, licensing, and/or experience which has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the job satisfactorily may qualify candidates to be considered for open positions in the job classification. On an exceptional basis the Human Resources Department is responsible for maintaining a consistent interpretation of minimum qualifications for each job classification.
