Public Engagement on IT Initiatives

The City of San José Information Technology Department believes the best technology is developed with the community, not just for the community. As the City explores new technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), data, and digital services, we put people first by being transparent, listening to the community, and inviting public participation.

Our community meetings, workshops, and webinars give residents, neighborhood leaders, community organizations, businesses, and academic partners the opportunity to learn about new technology initiatives, ask questions, and share ideas before important decisions are made.

Community feedback helps shape how new technologies are designed, used, and improved. It also helps ensure these technologies reflect community priorities, protect privacy, and improve City services.

Public engagement is a key part of the City's approach to responsible innovation. By listening to different perspectives and working together, we can build trust, improve quality of life, and create a more responsive City for everyone.

Meeting Description:

Hosted by the City of San José Information Technology Department and the Office of Mayor Matt Mahan, in partnership with Data-Smart City Solutions at the Bloomberg Center for Cities at Harvard University, the City is requesting your input on how artificial intelligence (AI), data, and community partnerships can help create a more responsive City.

The City of San José is exploring how AI-powered object detection can support more responsive City services by helping identify issues such as potholes, graffiti, illegal dumping, and other neighborhood concerns. By identifying issues earlier, the City can better understand community needs, improve service delivery, and respond more proactively.

Most importantly, we want to hear from our San José community. As the City explores these technologies, your feedback will help shape how AI tools are designed and used to reflect community priorities, build public trust, and improve quality of life for all residents.

This conversation is part of San José's commitment to responsible, transparent, and community-centered use of AI. Your input will help ensure these technologies are developed in ways that reflect the values and priorities of the communities they serve.
