Welcome to the City's Project Management Office (PMO)

Mission Statement

The mission of the PMO division is to provide quality Portfolio, Product and Project management services in a timely and efficient manner, and to work with the cooperation of stakeholders and the community to implement solutions, infrastructure and platforms that are robust and secure for the City of San José. Our interaction with stakeholders and vendors are fair, respectful, professional, and consistent with available human and economic resources.

Purpose

San Jose has made tremendous improvements in managing and deploying the City's technology investments through a Portfolio-Products-Projects Management approach that:

  • incorporates agile and dev/ops methodologies to focus on the customer first and optimizes value;
  • develops delivery teams with clear responsibilities to manage the life cycle of technology portfolios and products; and
  • creates roadmaps for ongoing feature development and releases as well as product maintenance and upgrades.

These approaches have become necessary as most of the transformative technology investments are cross departmental and are being incorporated into a Citywide Technology Deployments and Management policy. These approaches have also been key to increasing the City’s technology project success rate from <5% to more than 81% over the last 4 years.
