Councilmember Michael Mulcahy, a San José native and lifelong resident of District 6, has dedicated his career to building a stronger, safer, and more economically vibrant city. He and his wife Kimberly raised their three daughters—Claire, Ella, and Camille—in Willow Glen, embodying his deep commitment to the community.

Mulcahy was born and raised in District 6. As Managing Partner of SDS NexGen Partners, a family-owned real estate investment and asset management firm since 2001, Mulcahy oversaw property acquisition, development, leasing, and disposition in the Bay Area and beyond. His efforts, including the rehabilitation of the Garden Theater and other key properties along Lincoln Avenue in Willow Glen, have supported local entrepreneurs, created hundreds of jobs, and preserved a part of San Jose's rich heritage.

Mulcahy also owns stakes in several restaurants including The Table and Lamella Tavern. Another creative development under his stewardship was the conversion of the former Sun Garden Packing Company cannery located on Monterey Highway into a grocer led shopping center.

Mulcahy's extensive community involvement includes:

  • Past President of the Willow Glen Business Association

  • Founding board member of Team San José

  • Co-chair of the San José Downtown Development Strategy Task Force

  • Founder of the Monterey Corridor Business Association

  • Senior fellow and past board member of the American Leadership Forum

Prior to his career in real estate, Mulcahy was the Executive Director of Children's Musical Theater San Jose from 1993 to 2001, where he managed operations, finances, marketing, fundraising, and strategic planning. He grew the organization into one of Silicon Valley's most impactful youth programs.

Mulcahy attended Bellarmine College Preparatory and San José State University before graduating from the University of Southern California. Elected to the San José City Council in November 2024, Councilmember Mulcahy took office in January 2025. He is committed to addressing key issues such as public safety, homelessness, and economic development while preserving the character of San Jose's neighborhoods.
