The Safe Summer Initiative is a program designed to keep San José youth active, busy, and off the streets during the summer months. The initiative focuses on engaging youth between 6 and 24 years of age through fun activities like sports events, field trips, and summer camps as a way to prevent and combat gang activity.
The Safe Summer Initiative offers grants to non-profit organizations, governmental entities, and faith-based organizations that provide safe programs and activities that engage at-risk youth and encourage healthy play and positive relationships. Emphasis is placed on services benefiting youth in Hot Spot areas — locations determined annually as experiencing the most gang activity and youth violence.
