Bassett and N. San Pedro Master Plan Project
About the PARKS
Two new downtown park sites will be opening to the public in early 2027.- Elizabeth P. Boyer Park, located on North San Pedro Street between Bassett and West Julian Streets, will be a 0.89 park and is envisioned as an outdoor living room. Thank you to those who participated in the community naming surveys and helped us achieve a new milestone. Elizabeth P. Boyer was an African American activist and suffragist who fought to uplift the lives of African Americans. She helped found the Garden City Women's Club.
- City Gardens Park, located at the northeast corner of Bassett and North San Pedro Streets, will be a 0.31 acre park and will have a focus on fitness and play options. City Gardens was the name of Louis Pellier's nursery, where Pellier conducted many early horticultural experiments. Nearby Pellier Park is on the site of the former nursery and is California Historical Landmark #434.
Background
On January 23, 2024, City Council adopted the official park names for the two sites. On April 27, 2021, City Council approved the North San Pedro Park Bassett Park Master Plan. The Master Plan envisioned a cohesive network of three parks consisting of City Gardens Park, Elizabeth P. Boyer Park, and Pellier Park.
