If you are looking for a more casual setting and the ability to interact with people who have similar interests, our programs for adults 50+ offer a wide range of possibilities. You can brush up on your painting, learn how to play new card games, or step into some new dance skills while enjoying the company of those around you.Senior Nutrition Program ^
ALL Sites Serve Lunch 11:30 a.m to 12 p.m.
The City of San José in partnership with TRIO Community Meals provides nutritious meals to older adults 60+ at 13 community centers throughout the city. All meals served at our community centers meet county health standards.
Senior Nutrition Program Overview
- Seniors must have a yellow nutrition card to attain a meal. To obtain a yellow nutrition card, seniors should contact their participating community center listed below.
- Meals are served Monday - Friday*
- *Roosevelt Community Center: Monday - Saturday
- *Northside Community Center: Tuesday - Sunday
- Meals are served from 11:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.
- A Reservation System exists for the Senior Nutrition Program.
- Please check your local Senior Nutrition Program for their reservation guidelines.
- There is a suggested $5 contribution for older adults 60+ years
- There is a $15 fee for those under 60 years
- New meals every week!

Looking for a casual setting and the ability to interact with people who have similar interests? Throughout San José, we offer classes in health and fitness, dance, yoga, arts and crafts, enrichment and education, music, theatre arts, and more.

2026 Older Adults Program memberships are available for registration starting Wednesday, October 1, 2025. Memberships are FREE for older adults ages 50+.

Senior Citizens Commission ^
The Senior Citizens Commission studies, reviews, evaluates and makes recommendations to the City Council on any matters affecting elderly people in the City, including health, education, employment, housing, transportation and recreation.

Older Adults Health and Wellness Programs ^
The City of San José Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services (PRNS) administers the Older Adults (50+) Health and Wellness (OAHW) Grant Program (formerly known as Senior Health and Wellness) and collaborates with several non-profit organizations and public agencies that are also engaged in meeting the needs of the senior population.
The OAHW grant program seeks to reduce social isolation and improve the health and wellness of individuals ages 50 and up by providing quality programs at Santa Clara County (SCC) sponsored Senior Nutrition Program (SNP) sites and additional service locations within the City of San José. Through this local grant program, PRNS is able to offer a variety of social services to seniors, their families, and the community.
Bay Area Community Health
Bay Area Community Health will provide Behavioral Health Therapy group sessions including psychoeducation groups on topics that would interest seniors and/or administer physical health exam appointments through its Mobile Health Clinic a several Senior Nutrition sites
Breathe California of the Bay Area
Breathe California of the Bay Area's (BCBA) will provide breathing Pranayama, a yoga-type program that concentrates on breathing exercises to enhance the following: muscle tone, circulation, and breathing. Health Screenings can be a substitute activity for Breathing Exercise. Health Education can be selected instead of the Breathing Exercise and Health Screening at various Senior Nutrition sites aimed to help increase health and well-being.
Health Mobile
Health Mobile will provide dental services such as comprehensive diagnostic oral checkups, x-rays, oral examinations, comprehensive dental care and preventive dental treatments. Dental fillings & extractions (removal of the tooth). Services will increase the seniors' health, self-esteem, and quality of life.
Senior Adult Legal Assistance (SALA)
Senior Adult Legal Assistance (SALA) is a non-profit elder law office whose mission is to support older persons in their efforts to live safely, independently, non-institutionalized, and with dignity. SALA’s provides quality legal services from simple advice and referrals to reviewing legal matters and relevant documents.
SALA Specializes in These Legal Matters:
- Public Benefits: Social Security and SSI (except disability cases); Medicare and Medi-Cal; and In Home Support Services.
- Long Term Care: Nursing Home and Residential Care issues; Alternatives to Institutionalization.
- Elder Abuse: Restraining/Protective Orders for Elder Abuse, Domestic Violence or Civil Harassment Restraining Orders; Lodger Statute Evictions; Revocation of Powers of Attorney (for fiduciary abuse).
- Housing: Landlord-Tenant; Subsidized/Senior Housing; Mobile Home Residency problems.
- Consumer: Medicare HMO or Supplemental Insurance disputes; Long-Term Care Insurance problems.
- Incapacity Planning: Advance Health Care Directives; Health Care Powers of Attorney; Uniform Statutory Form Powers of Attorney (for financial management).
- Probate Alternatives: Death of Joint Tenant Affidavits; Small Estate Affidavits (valued at $100,000 or less).
- Simple Wills: Attorney-drafted wills available through SALA’s No Fee Wills Panel; California Statutory Wills or holographic wills for elders with modest assets.
SALA’s services are provided primarily through appointments by calling the centers directly.
Stroke Awareness Foundation
Stroke Awareness Forum - Knowing the symptoms and what to do in a stroke emergency. Hosted by SAF Executive Director Noemi Conway. Presentation includes an informative presentation, educational visual presentation, personal stories from stroke survivors, and interactive Q&A.
