SMART Curbs: Curb Management Pilot
The Curb Management Pilot performance period ended on June 30, 2025. City staff are preparing a report to summarize key findings. Please check back later this year for the full report.
The Department of Transportation was awarded a Federal Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) Grant. This grant pilots new technologies to monitor curbside activities in downtown. By collecting this information, we can make data-driven decisions about parking demand, foot traffic, and safety. Thus, we can make downtown a better and safer place for residents, community members, and business owners.
Goals for the project
- Gather data about the curb, such as the locations of parking spaces and the rules for using them
- Fix problems at the curb to make them safer and more efficient, and to help reach our climate goals
- Understand the competing and growing demands for various curb uses
Timeline
- June 2024 to March 2025: Stage 1 pilot project
