Placemaking inspires people to imagine and reinvent public spaces in your community. Using the theory of placemaking, residents have hands-on opportunities to build community through dynamic and engaging programs.
Viva CalleSJ is an "open streets" event, based on the global concept where roads are opened to people and closed to cars. Streets become “paved parks” where residents can run, walk, bike, skate, and play. All ages and abilities can come out and take part in activities, services, cultural events, and explore San José.
Viva Parks Neighborhood Events
Viva Parks is a series of free events focused on health and wellness resources, physical activity, and community. We connect people to people, build community pride, transform parks with positive programming, increase park usage, and bring resources to the neighborhood.
Viva Parks Downtown Events
Eat, relax, sit, and play at Plaza de Cesar Chavez and St. James Park. Grab a bite it in the park, step out of the office and hold your meeting under the shade of a tree, or take part in any of our free activations. San José parks provide a perfect location to engage with your community or unplug to enjoy your natural surroundings.
