Pay My Utility Bill

Pay your water or garbage bill (apartments and condominiums with communal garbage service and mobile home parks only) using one of the following methods.


To pay your bill online, or sign up for automatic or recurring payments, use E-Bill Express. By following this link, you will leave the City of San José website. Have your customer number, account number, and amount from your bill statement ready.

The ability to view your bills online will be available soon.

By Phone

To pay your bill by phone 24 hours a day, call (866) 551-5253.

To speak with a live representative, call (408) 535-3500 during business hours:

Monday – Friday
8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (excluding holidays).

By Mail

Send check and payment stub in the return envelope provided to:

Pay by cash, check, money order, credit card or debit card at:

Drop Box

Place check and payment stub in a sealed envelope 24 hours a day at the drop box located at:

Never place cash in the Drop Box. For all cash payments, see "In Person" payment options. Payments are collected daily during regular business hours.

Late Payments

A late fee of $10.00 or 10%, whichever is greater, is applied when the payment is received after the due date on the bill statement. Payments are processed upon receipt (not postmark).

Payments made through other options may take up to 5 days to be posted to your account. This includes bills paid in person, by mail, and drop box payments. To avoid late fees, mail your payment at least 3 to 5 days prior to the due date. Mail may be delayed by holidays. Example: If you go online to make a payment or a Customer Service Representative processes a credit card payment over the phone on April 12, the payment will not be posted to your account until at least April 14.
